Gutters and downspouts are the part of the roof system that decides whether all the water your shingles just shed actually goes somewhere useful, or ends up in your basement, your landscaping, or your foundation. We treat this as its own discipline, not an afterthought tacked onto a roofing job.

A Roof and a Gutter System Are One System, Not Two

A roof's entire job is to move water off the structure. Shingles handle the first part of that job. Gutters and downspouts handle the rest of it. If the second half of that system is undersized, poorly pitched, or clogged, the first half's work gets undone the moment water reaches the edge of the roof. That's why we install and think about gutters as part of the roof, not as a separate add-on.

Pitch Is Everything, and It's Invisible From the Ground

A gutter that looks straight from the driveway can still be pitched wrong. Gutters need a slight, consistent slope toward the downspout outlets, and that slope has to be built in during installation, not eyeballed. A gutter with the wrong pitch holds standing water, which adds weight, invites debris to settle, and shortens the life of the gutter itself well before it ever overflows visibly.

Downspouts Decide Where the Water Actually Ends Up

A gutter can do everything right and still cause a problem if the downspout dumps water two feet from the foundation instead of carrying it away from the house. We pay as much attention to discharge points, extensions, and routing as we do to the gutters themselves, because water sitting against a foundation is a slow, patient way to cause expensive damage.

Debris Is the Enemy of Everything We Just Described

Pitch, hanger spacing, and downspout routing can all be done correctly and still get undermined by a gutter full of leaves and grit. A blocked gutter behaves like no gutter at all during a heavy rain, and it puts extra weight on the hangers that were never designed to hold standing debris and water at the same time. Seasonal maintenance is not optional if you want the rest of the system to actually work.
